Deputy Headteacher (Early Years, Safeguarding & Inclusion)

Start: September 2026
Salary: L6 – L10
Permanent contract

This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced professional with a strong background in Early Years education, alongside expertise in safeguarding and inclusive practice.

About the role

This Deputy Headteacher role has a clear strategic focus on:

  • Early Years leadership and development
  • Safeguarding (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Mental Health Lead
  • Pupil Premium Lead
  • In school transition

You will play a central role in shaping the earliest experiences of our children, ensuring strong foundations for learning, development and wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a deep understanding of high-quality Early Years provision
  • Can lead and inspire excellence in Nursery, Pre School, Reception and beyond
  • Is experienced and confident in managing Safeguarding  
  • Understands how to support children with additional needs within inclusive classrooms
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with families
  • Demonstrates resilience, warmth and professional integrity
  • Can work effectively in a school with complex and varied needs
  • Has experience in coaching and supporting staff

The school context

We are a one-form entry primary school with a strong inclusive ethos. A significant number of our pupils have additional needs, with fifty-three having an EHCP and many families require ongoing support. This role is key in ensuring that early identification, intervention and care are embedded from the very start of a child’s journey with us.

Early Years Teaching Assistant

Salary: £24,413 (TA 1) to £26,824 (TA 3) FTE (Dependent upon qualifications and experience)

Hours: 21 hours per week, Term Time Only – 2 Terms

Contract Duration: 1st January 2026 to 31st August 2026 (with the potential to be extended or become permanent)

Start Date: 1st January 2026

We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced and enthusiastic, teaching assistant to work within our Early Years Department at Abbey Park Primary School.

We provide education for children across campus from the ages of 2 – 12 years old. The school encourages sharing of staff and resources, ensuring expertise and knowledge is available to all. We pride ourselves in being an inclusive setting who work closely as a team to ensure the best outcomes for all our pupils, whatever their ability.

The candidate will work primarily in our Nursery, supporting children who are 2 and 3 years of age. Although where appropriate, there may be a need for the successful candidate to work across other areas of our Early Years, including Pre-School and Reception.

The successful candidate will hold a Grade ‘C’ in both English and Maths, have a high level of child development knowledge and Early Years’ experience would be desirable. The candidate will be a highly effective and innovative team member, be resilient and flexible, ensuring a high quality education for all of our pupils and the highest standards of learning and achievement. The promotion of inclusivity and a nurturing approach are essential skills.
