Nursery (2-3 year olds)
Welcome to the Autumn term in nursery.
We are looking forward to getting to know you all and a wonderful year of adventures.
We have been working really hard to get our classroom ready for the new school year.
Our new topic is This is me.
2025-2026
The children were so excited to take delivery on Monday of 5 tiny wriggly caterpillars 🐛 . Over the week they have watched them grow bigger. We are excited to watch the changes.
We explored forest school and spotted 3 different types of butterfly.
We created our own butterfly wings using paint and natural materials.
This week we have explored the world of mini beasts. We explored the outdoor environment, we were excited to see that when we moved logs, rocks and looked under leaves we discovered a magical world of tiny creatures. We enjoyed listening to the ugly bug ball and singing incy wincy spider.
This week Nursery have been exploring the Arctic helping the animals which have become stuck in the ice.
We have loved reading our book That’s not my penguin.
As it has been so hot we have loved playing in the paddling pool and water toys to help us keep cool.
We have listened to Let it go from Frozen and have enjoyed twirling and dancing.
Nursery have been learning about our wonderful oceans and what lives in the sea.
We were happy to have the Daddies in for a stay and play
This week nursery have been exploring the jungle environment , we made a lion using our hands and forks to create its mane.
The children are starting to develop an awareness of jungle animals and different environments in our world.
We have started our new topic it’s wonderful world.
The children painted their interpretation of earth using brushes hands and sponges.
We then sprayed water on it practicing our fine motor skills, we then planted cress.
We listened to what a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong.
We also started to think about recycling and looking after our planet.
This week we have finished our transport topic by thinking about our favourite way to travel around our world.
We looked at the book You choose by Nick Sharratt and pointed out our favourite vehicles. Some of the children were able to say where they would like to go.
We made our own bus and took it in turns to drive and decide where we were going, the children enjoyed having tickets.
We listened to the song sailing by Rod Stewart and swayed our bodies to the rhythm of the music.
Nursery have been making rockets for a trip into space to visit the moon.
We have been listening to Holst’s the planets and the children were able to tell us how different the different planets sounded.
We watched Artemis ll take off and we used key language such as rocket, orbit, planet and space. The children started to use this language in their play.
This week we have explored travel by air.
We made paper aeroplanes and flew them in the play area.
In forest school we built a runway with natural materials and then flew up and down it, which was great fun.
Nursery have had a lovely week being builders building houses and roads, The children have used the diggers and dumper trucks to move the sand.
This week we have continued our how do we travel, and we have been travelling by boat. We have sailed to different places and sang our rhyme row row the boat gently down the stream
We have started our new topic how can we travel in our world using wheels. The children have enjoyed washing cars and driving cars to the shops. We used cars in paint and were excited to see what the tracks looked like and if they could move down ramps. We have had really good fun🖌️
This week we have been thinking about Spring. We have looked in the school outdoor areas that Spring is coming we found daffodils, blossom and buds. We listened to the birds singing in the tree we had to be really quiet.
We made Easter cards for our families using a potato masher to print egg shapes.
At the end of the week we were visited by the Easter bunny.

This week Nursery have been lucky enough to have a vet visit us we practiced bandaging our toys legs and paws it was such fun. We looked for animals that needed help in forest school.
This week we have been thinking about who can help us at home.
We have also made some lovely crafts for Mother’s Day and the children have enjoyed choosing a gift from the PTFA shop

Nursery have had an exciting week learning how firefighters help us and learnt 999 was the number we needed to call if we needed them to help us
In forest school we pretended to be firefighters and rescued cats stuck in a tree using some steps and sat around a fire learning how to be safe.
Nursery enjoyed celebrating world book day this week. We shared stories with year 6 and enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters.
We have started our new topic Who Can Help Us.
We have explored the role of the dentist and doctor.
We have enjoyed role play in our hospital, the children enjoyed making teddies/dolls and even me better with bandages and injections.
We learnt how to brush our teeth and keep ourselves healthy. We painted with toothbrushes to make teeth and strengthen our motor skills.
This week our story was Guess how much I love you.
We thought about people in our lives that we love and care about.
We made special cards and paintings for people who are special to us.
We enjoyed exploring sensory foam, filled and emptied in the rice.
In forest school we hopped like the hare’s in the story and lay down on our backs to look at the moon and the clouds.
Our families made special hearts for us which made us feel very loved when they were shared with us.
This week our story was Dear Zoo.
We were excited to receive a daily parcel from the zoo. We tried hard to look after the different animals; however we decided we needed to send them back until we received a dog on Friday.
We painted with animal cutters and used scissors to snip out animal shapes. Some of us were able to mark make to write letters to the zoo.
We looked for frogs that were hiding under the lily pads, and then we practiced jumping like a frog on the trampoline.
This week our story was Goldilocks and the 3 bears. We have made porridge and fed the bears. We mixed, filled, and emptied different size containers.
In forest school the bears had gone for a walk and got lost. We found them all and then made them some porridge.
We are learning to handle tools and equipment with increasing Control and we used forks to paint our bears.
This week we have explored the story of the 3 little pigs.
We have sponge painted pigs for our wall display and blew paint like the wolf.
We told the story with puppets and toys. We are becoming really good story tellers.
This week we have explored the story of the gingerbread man.
We have made our own gingerbread men out of playdough, adding facial features and buttons.
We enjoyed mixing flour, spices and rolling using our motor skills.
Sue drew round the children, and they decorated their own life size gingerbread person with paint.
The children enjoyed retelling the story, cutting, and sticking out pictures from the story.
Welcome back to a new term at nursery.
Our topic this term is Once upon a time.
This week we explored the story frozen.
The children enjoyed exploring ice and learning key language to describe it.
We made winters painting with our hands and brushes.
We ended our week with a visit from Father Christmas 🎅.

We are so excited to celebrate Christmas, we have enjoyed listening to lots of Christmas stories and singing Christmas songs.
We enjoyed looking for baubles in forest school, making wreathes and party hats.

This week we have been learning about the nativity story. We are very excited to hear that a special baby is going to be born.
We have been filling and emptying baubles with festive scented water play, making Christmas cards, and having fun.
Nursery really enjoyed seeing Father Christmas on our jingle bell jog. Merry Christmas.🎅
On Wednesday, the early years department visited St Peter’s garden centre. We enjoyed a frosty festive walk, a trip to the fair and finished the morning with a visit to Father Christmas. We are now feeling festive and excited.
This week we have been thinking about birthday celebrations. We have iced biscuits, made party hats, and learnt to sing happy birthday. We enjoyed playing with balloons in our PE session and made mud birthday cakes in forest school.
This week we have learnt about Diwali, we have experimented with light using the torches. We dressed up in Sari’s and made mendhi patterns using Q tips.
We enjoyed some Bollywood dancing.
This week the children have taken part in activities to celebrate world nursery rhyme week. We have sung several rhymes and taken part with themed rhyming activities.
Today the children have taken part in children in need. They have been learning that it is kind to help people.
We have been thinking about fireworks, we practiced our motor skills to make our own fireworks. We watched some fireworks on the big screen and practiced being a firework in PE.
This week we have been remembering the soldiers who helped to keep us safe.
This week we have thought about some of the animals we might see at Autumn. We listened to That’s not my hedgehog” we are learning to listen to short stories.
we poured water down the drainpipes to make the spiders move.
We painted hedgehogs with our hands.
We have been thinking about Autumn this week.
We have explored forest school looking for Autumn treasure. We noticed the leaves were falling from the trees.
We made our own leaves with our fingerprints.
We have been thinking about our body and learning to name our different body parts.
We drew round each other, washed dolls and painted our hands.
We enjoyed singing heads, shoulders knees and toes.
This week in nursery we have explored our emotions using the colour monster story.
We have used puppets and painted to help us identify how we are feeling.
This week in nursery we have been thinking about healthy food. We picked apples from our tree; we ate some and painted and rolled with the rest.
This week we have been thinking about our families and where we live.
We talked about activities we share with our families and what we like to do together.
We made houses by printing with duplo.
This week in nursery we have painting our hands, looking at ourselves in the mirror and naming our facial features.

Dear Parents,
I am delighted to welcome you and your child to our nursery class.
The children that have started this week are really enjoying our provision and are beginning to form lovely relationships with ourselves and their peers.
Our topic this half term is “This is me” and we will be exploring likes, dislikes, keeping healthy, looking after ourselves, emotions and body parts.
Each week we will have a set story and a significant rhyme of the week. You will be updated of these and weekly activities via the school app weekly. Please ensure you have signed up to receive notifications as this will be the main way of communicating information. I will update the school website and tapestry weekly.
Just a few reminders, we are a healthy eating setting and we are following the new guidance issued by the Government in April. For the morning session your child needs a named separate snack pot containing a piece of fruit and a carbohydrate which should NOT be sweet. Good examples are breadsticks, a slice of bread and butter or crackers. Please place your child’s named snack in the box on the trolley daily. If your child is only attending the morning session, they do NOT need a drink. Milk or water are provided. If your child requires special milk please provide.
If your child is staying for lunch, they need a substantial lunch, please avoid processed foods such as pork pie, sausage rolls and fridge raiders as per the government guidance. They can have a small packet of crisps, yoghurt, fruit, sandwich, crackers, wraps, salad, pasta a slice of cake or a biscuit. They will need a drink which when accompanied by a meal can be weak squash.
Please can I remind you to name all your child’s belongings, we have children with the same coats, bags, cups and shoes. Your child’s bookbag needs to come every day.
Please do not send your child wearing jewellery, due to the daily activities the children take part in it is not safe.
After half term we will start forest school sessions on a Wednesday morning and PE sessions will be on a Tuesday and Thursday morning.
We will be inviting you in for a stay and play session and a parents evening and I will advise you of these dates via the app.
If you have any queries questions, please do not hesitate to catch us at the beginning or end of the day.

Please provide only nappies for your child as we have several children to change every day and if a staff member is changing pull ups it takes them out of the classroom for a significant amount of time and reduces interaction and quality time in the classroom. Please come and discuss with a staff member if you are actively toilet training.
