Squirrels – Our Nursery Class for 3-4 year olds
Our 3 year old children in Squirrels Class can look forward to a nurturing environment offering a broadened curriculum where children develop and flourish in our care.
Our teacher-led Squirrels class is a happy and stimulating environment where children develop skills and self-confidence. We carefully plan sessions to enable children to develop a sense of security and identity; where self-esteem and self-assurance can flourish. Children are unique and their interests and needs are included when we plan activities and themes in Squirrels Class.
We carefully prepare children for their transition to Reception Class. During the Summer Term children take part in PE lessons to begin developing independence in dressing skills and develop a love for acquiring PE skills. We provide Phonics Fun to enable our children to begin recognising letter sounds, with opportunities for mark making and early writing. Most importantly, children will meet their Reception teacher regularly as part of their transition process.
Our focus within the Early Years Foundation Stage is on the prime areas of development – Communication, Personal, Social, Emotional skills and Physical Development. Some of the activities we enjoy include:
Weekly Outdoor learning in Forest School ~ Write ~ Dance ~ Stories, poems and rhymes ~ Cookery ~ Sensory Exploration ~ Bikes and Trikes ~ Phonic Fun ~ Pet Care ~ Role Play ~ Arts + Crafts ~ Gardening – growing our own food ~ Number Wonder ~ Small World Play ~ Music and Movement ~ Exploring our exciting outdoor area ~ Using our Early Years dedicated climbing play equipment
