Our Amazing Work!

Welcome to Year One!

What a busy first few days back.  We centred our learning around a book called ‘The Leaf Thief’ (by Alice Hemming). We gave suggestions as to who we thought the leaf thief might be and began to use our phonics to write who the culprit might be. We went on a scavenger hunt to find some leaves and even made leaf animals or leaf people! We had fun during class provision by using our mathematical skills to sort autumnal objects too. We have also been reminding children of our class and school expectations. We are so proud of how well the children have settled in.

2025-2026

Year 1 enjoyed making moving pictures in DT.

The children loved going on a spring walk around the school grounds.

The children applied their newly learnt knowledge and skills of drawing and tone into their observational drawings of trees in our playground.

We have explored healthy food choices in PSHE and DT. The children learnt how to cut up fruit safely with an adult and made their own healthy snack.

Year 1 loved creating their own rainbow fish in DT. They learnt how to weave to make these brilliant creations.

In art and design lessons the year 1 children have been exploring monoprints (printmaking).

The year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed learning about stable structures and creating their own bonfire diorama.

KS1 Christmas Nativity Baarmy Bethlehem.

The year 1 children enjoyed their aspiration day all about becoming an artist.

Year 1 have been exploring aerial perspective in geography. Here are their aerial maps of the year 1 classroom.

The Year 1 children loved exploring the book The Lights that Dance in the Night by Yuval Zommer. During this unit, the children learnt all about adjectives and verbs. They applied this new knowledge to their poems all about the animals that dance in the night under the lights.

Year 1 have been learning about primary and secondary colours. They have learnt how to make secondary colours by mixing certain primary colours together. They have also explored shades and tints (making a colour lighter or darker by adding either white or black). Year 1 have applied all their new colour mixing knowledge to create their own versions of Wassily Kandinsky’s Concentric Circles.

The year 1 children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Naughty Bus book by Jan and Jerry Oke. The children are currently creating a sequel to the story. To help inspire them we took lots of pictures of the bus getting up to mischief.
