Our Amazing Work!

Lumi Nova: Help your child build confidence and self manage worries with a fun mobile game.

Developing our art skills

In art, we began by drawing self-portraits before developing our shading and sketching skills. We are now focusing on each facial feature, looking closely and adding detail. The progress the children have made is remarkableโ€”we are so proud of their work!

Exploring place value

In maths, we have been using Base 10 equipment and place value counters to strengthen our understanding of hundreds, tens and ones. These practical resources help us explore how numbers are built and recognise the value of each digit.

Writing inspired by The Midnight Panther

Our display celebrates the childrenโ€™s wonderful writing inspired by The Midnight Panther. As part of a whole-school writing project, the children created their own adapted versions of the story. We were so impressed by their imaginative ideas, creativity and the fantastic stories they produced!

Welcome to Year 3

We are looking forward to a wonderful year together, with lots of exciting learning and adventures planned. We will take a walk around Pershore to investigate how land is used, explore Chedworth Roman Villa and visit EnviroSort as part of our science and geography learning. We will also celebrate our hard work with a well-deserved trip at the end of the year. We look forward to sharing our discoveries and achievements with you!

2025-2026

We had a fantastic World Book Day, and the childrenโ€™s costumes truly blew us away with their creativity and effort. One of the highlights was welcoming Year 7, who came to join us and share some lovely reading time with the younger pupils. It was a wonderful celebration of books, imagination and the joy of reading together.

This term in PE, Year 3 are learning parkour, developing balance, core strength and resilience. We have been extremely impressed by how confidently the children are meeting all of their success criteria.

In D&T, Year 3 have been designing, planning and creating their own Roman chariots. They have blown us away with their creativity and are incredibly proud of their finished products.

In science, Year 3 investigated chalky, sandy, peat and clay soils to explore why some football fields flood while others do not. They worked with real enthusiasm, carefully testing water absorption and showing excellent scientific thinking throughout.

In our writing lessons, the children have been creating their own dictionaries linked to our work on The BFG. They came up with some fantastic definitions for a wide range of words, showing great imagination and a strong understanding of vocabulary.

Year 3 are thoroughly enjoying reading The Seed That Grew the Tree in their reading lessons. The children were tasked with performing poems in different styles, including singing, choral reading, and even rapping! We were blown away by their creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm

In Science, the children have been enthusiastically investigating rocks. They carefully observed the different properties of a range of rocks, made excellent predictions, and worked scientifically to achieve reliable results. We were very impressed with their curiosity and teamwork.

Year 3 have been working incredibly hard to develop their sewing skills. Using a running stitch and an overstitch, the children created their own Stone Age pouches. We were very impressed with their progress, and the children were proud and happy with their finished work.

Year 3 have loved diving into The First Drawing and have created some truly amazing pieces of writing in response. Their display wall is filled with imaginative retellings and thoughtful reflections that bring the story to life in their own voices. It has been such a joy to read their workโ€”every bit as enjoyable as the original book! We are so proud of the creativity, effort, and passion Year 3 have shown.

This term, Year 3 have been learning about the Stone Age and practising their sewing skills to prepare for making their own Stone Age pouch. Theyโ€™ve shown fantastic resilience and focus throughout.

In Maths this term, the children have been learning the column method for addition and subtraction. They have quickly gained confidence and shown a strong understanding of place value, recognising how important it is to keep their work neat and well-organised to avoid errors. We are very proud of the progress they have made.

In Science this term, the children have been investigating different types of rocks and exploring their properties. They have used excellent scientific vocabulary and were able to identify similarities and differences between a range of samples. Their curiosity and careful observations have been wonderful to see.

In our Oracy lessons this week, the children were challenged to sell an item to their peers in just three minutes. They presented their ideas with confidence and quick thinking. One highlight was a pitch for a magical pencil that could help you write amazing stories. Their creativity and communication skills were a pleasure to see.

Some of the children in Year 3 have been busy baking! They used their maths and social skills to make a batch of delicious buns, which they then shared with the rest of the class. We were so proud of how well they took turns, communicated, and worked together as a team โ€” and the buns were absolutely delicious.

This week, the children brought history to life by reenacting a scene from The Stone Age Boy. They acted out the moment when the Stone Age boy draws on the cave wall to show his large family the woolly mammoth he sees flickering in the shadows of the firelight. The family freezes in fear, believing the boy is using magic.

During our termly No Outsiders lesson, the children explored The Hueys in the New Jumper by Oliver Jeffers. They engaged in thoughtful discussions about the importance of individuality and how being yourself can sometimes require courage and confidence to speak up. The session concluded with some impressive drama performances and beautifully designed โ€œspecial jumpers,โ€ each reflecting the childrenโ€™s unique personalities.

For our Aspirations Day, we explored the wonderful world of illustration! We discovered what it takes to be a successful illustrator, taking inspiration from the legendary Quentin Blake.

Take a look at our amazing drawings of The Enormous Crocodile

Last week, year 3 went for a walk in our local area of Pershore. We took maps and discussed what the land use was. We spotted retail, residential, community and recreation. We marked them on our maps.

The year 3 team were so impressed with the wonderful behaviour that the class showed towards members of the public.

Well done year 3!

Maths

In maths, weโ€™ve been using number lines to help with subtraction. Weโ€™ve discovered that itโ€™s much easier (and quicker!) to jump to the next multiple of 10 or 100 rather than counting back in ones. This strategy helps us work more efficiently and understand how numbers are connected.

Reading Response

During our reading response sessions, we have been exploring and summarising key moments from the story. In this piece, we focus on the thrilling scene where Arthur finds himself being chased by a fearsome giant cat.

Science

In Science, we have been learning all about the human skeleton. We had great fun working in groups to draw around each other and create life-sized skeletons! We then labelled the key bones and described their main functions, deepening our understanding of how the skeleton supports and protects the body.

Writing Poetry

At the start of this term, we read a beautiful book all about the Northern Lights. Inspired by its stunning imagery, we wrote our own poems capturing the beauty of the lights and how they touch the many creatures of the Arctic on their journey across the sky. Here is one of the wonderful poems.

Writing a narrative

Recently, in our writing lessons, we have been inspired by a magical story about a boy who tumbles into an enchanted land filled with wonder and surprise. Using this as our inspiration, we created our own imaginative narratives, brimming with excitement, adventure, and extraordinary discoveries.

Geography

In Geography, we have been exploring our local community and learning all about the features that make Pershore special. During our learning walk, we investigated how the land is used in different parts of the town and enjoyed seeing our classroom learning come to life. We then โ€œzoomed outโ€ to take a wider look at the United Kingdom, identifying its countries and the seas that surround our beautiful islands.

Art

This term in Art, we have been experimenting with different pencil gradients and exploring a variety of shading techniques to bring our drawings to life. Using these new skills, we carefully sketched the features of our own faces, focusing on light, tone, and detail. The results were truly impressive โ€” a wonderful showcase of our creativity and growing confidence as artists!
